Celebrating Healthy Aging Month

September 14, 2026

Each September, communities nationwide recognize Healthy Aging Month, now in its 34th year. This year's theme, "Curiosity Has No Age Limit," is a reminder that the desire to learn, explore, and connect doesn't fade with age. If anything, it's something worth nurturing more intentionally.

Here at Orchard Hill, curiosity isn't just a theme we're celebrating this month, it's something we encourage in our residents every single day. Whether it's picking up a new hobby, striking up a conversation with a neighbor or trying a new menu item.

Staying curious offers real benefits beyond just keeping the days interesting. Staying mentally and socially engaged is very important for cognitive health as we age. At Orchard Hill, we try to build the spirit of discovery into daily life, through our activities calendar, informational sessions, community events and the everyday moments residents share with one another.

We have seen curiosity in action in a few special ways recently. A group of our residents are taking part in a research study with the robotics department at Worcester Polytechnic Institute. This gives them the opportunity to interact with a robot while offering feedback that could help shape the future of robotics in senior care.

Meanwhile, other residents have been crafting for a cause. Many have taken part in creating handcrafted items that will be sold in our Fall Fundraiser. All proceeds will benefit Gaining Ground, a local nonprofit that grows and donates fresh produce to families facing food insecurity across Massachusetts.

As the month goes on, we are encouraging our residents, families, staff and friends to ask themselves: What are you curious about? Maybe it's a new class, a new hobby or simply a conversation with someone you haven't gotten to know yet. Whatever it looks like, remember to keep being curious, at every age and every stage.
